Principal

Benedict Choong Kai Qi

Benedict is an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya and the principal of The Chambers of Benedict Choong. Before establishing his own practice, he served as a DPP (Deputy Public Prosecutor) with the Attorney General’s Chambers, conducting numerous criminal trials and appeals in both the Subordinate and High Courts.

His practice now focuses on criminal and civil litigation, where he combines his prosecutorial experience with strategic insight and clear, persuasive advocacy. Clients value his measured approach — meticulous in preparation, firm in execution, and grounded in a sense of fairness.

Outside the courtroom, Benedict believes that legal practice is ultimately about people — about earning trust through diligence, integrity, and sound judgment.

Prathumthai Sirinya v. Public Prosecutor [2021] CLJU 1989

Acted as Deputy Public Prosecutor before the High Court of Malaya at Johor Bahru. The case clarified the limited right of appeal following a plea of guilt and reaffirmed that revisionary powers under section 325 of the Criminal Procedure Code may only be exercised where substantial injustice is shown.

Public Prosecutor v. Gokul Pariyar [2021] CLJU 1155

Acted as Deputy Public Prosecutor before the High Court of Malaya at Johor Bahru. The case involved procedural irregularity under section 163 of the Criminal Procedure Code and reaffirmed the importance of strict compliance with procedural safeguards to ensure fairness in criminal proceedings.

Public Prosecutor v. Mohd Azri Ahmad Sabri [2021] CLJU 1175

Acted as Deputy Public Prosecutor in a complex white-collar crime appeal concerning fraudulent land compensation claims. The High Court allowed the Prosecution’s appeal, affirming that computer-generated evidence is admissible without certification under section 90A of the Evidence Act when authenticity is not in dispute.
